Voted "Best Live Music Venue" at 2024 Maryland Music Awards

About

One of Baltimore’s most popular live music venues in the early 2000s returns as The Recher with the reunion of veteran local independent concert promoter, Paul Manna of 24-7 Entertainment and owners and brothers, Brian and Scott Recher.

The storied 700 capacity Recher Theatre, is located in Baltimore County just three miles north of the Baltimore city line in Towson, Md., Just minutes from Towson University, Johns Hopkins, Goucher College, and Loyola University, The Recher once hosted some of the biggest artists in the music business, like Iggy Pop, Brandi Carlile, The Avett Brothers, Wilco, Linkin Park, The White Stripes, Bryan Adams, Jonas Brothers, Sonic Youth, O.A.R., Slayer, Burning Spear, Motorhead, Keb Mo, Vince Gill, Ratdog, Flaming Lips, and so many others.

Patrons of the old Recher Theatre will immediately notice the venue’s fresh changes, including a new stage, refurbished restrooms, and complete sound and lighting upgrades. Artists will be welcomed with new amenities and home-cooked meals from an Recher brothers’ adjacent restaurant, Towson Tavern.

Originally a 1920s vaudeville theatre, the building was sold to the Recher family who operated it as a single screen movie theatre in the 1950s. Owners and brothers, Brian, Scott and Steve Recher decided to transform it into an upscale billiard parlor in the early 1990s. In 1997, Manna immediately recognized the potential of the space to host live music and Recher Theatre was born. “The natural beauty and vibe of the theatre hit me like a ton of bricks. This deserved be a live music venue and I wanted to be a part of it however I could”, Manna says.

Towson, Md., wasn’t exactly a hot spot for touring artists, but with Manna at the helm and the help from fellow regional independent promoters Seth Hurwitz of IMP and Tim Walther of Walther Productions, Recher Theatre averaged 275 shows annually from 1997 to 2011.

In 2013, Recher Theatre closed as a live music venue to embrace the electronic dance music scene and opened as Torrent Nightclub in 2014, but it took the pandemic in 2020 and increasing industry monopolization to reunite Manna and the Recher Brothers which led to their decision to relaunch the popular live music venue, simply as The Recher. Brian Recher sums it up. “It took one enthusiastic phone call from Paul and we were in. There’s a lot of memories and history in this theatre and we miss that live music energy. We can’t wait to welcome the bands and their fans as they come through our doors again!”
